Profile
Over the past ten years the population of the
historic Triangle area bedroom community of Lillington located on
the Cape Fear River south of Raleigh grew 46% and
continues to grow exponentially. Lillington is
only 45 minutes driving time from Raleigh and North
Carolina State University and 25 minutes from Ft.
Bragg / Pop Air Force Base and Fayetteville, N.C.
The RDU International Airport is only an hour and a
quarter away as is the Research Triangle Park.
The county airport is two miles away. Over 1.6
million people live within a one-hour drive from
Lillington.
Lillington has a University, Community College, is
the County seat of government, and has a regional
high-tech hospital scheduled to begin construction.
Nearby are the premier golf courses in Southern
Pines and Pinehurst, and the beach is only a
two-hour's drive down I-40. Asheville and the
Blue Ridge Mountains are a half-day's drive away.
Interstate I-95 is 13 miles to the east and will be
even a shorter distance to the south once the under
construction I-495 beltline is completed between
Lillington and Fayetteville. Additionally,
I-440 is under construction south-east and south of
Raleigh and furthermore, highways 401, 210 and 55
south are all scheduled for four-lane upgrade which
will greatly speed up the driving access time to
Raleigh.

From 1990 to 2000 Harnett County's
population increased over 34.2% and was the
8th fastest growing county in the state.
The Economic Development Commission expects
to see an increase in population of 14.3%
from 2001 to 2006. |

According to Mobility, April 2004
issue, "... the southeast was a popular destination.
North Carolina and South Carolina experienced their
highest-ever percentage of inbound moves, both with
61.3 percent." The findings were part of
United Van Lines 27th annual "migration" study,
which provides important data that can be used to
interpret the nation's moving and relocation trends.
